Harford County students awarded at agricultural event for Wednesday, May 15
Harford County Public Schools is pleased to announce the recipients of the annual Gift of Blue Program and the exceptional results of our students in the Maryland Future Farmers of America (FFA) Spring Judging Competition that was held in Westminster, Maryland on Saturday, April 13, 2024. The Gift of Blue Program is an initiative through FFA where teachers can nominate students to receive an FFA jacket and tie/scarf free of charge. Harford County Public Schools students Clayton McGraw, William Rowan and Logan Sealy were honored April 13 in the Maryland Future Farmers of America Spring Judging Competition held in Westminster.
Teachers nominate students for the annual Gift of Blue, a Future Farmers of America jacket and tie or scarf free of charge. The attire is required for most competitions, banquets, community events and animal shows at fairs.
Here are the local results from the Maryland FFA Spring Judging:
- Farm Business Management: Placed second in the state and will compete at the Big E, a giant fair representing all the states of New England, in Springfield, Mass. Individuals: William Rowan (3rd), James Ortt (5th), Lucy Heisey and Samuel Kleback.
- Floriculture: Placed ninth out of 17. Individuals: Harley Weisman, Norah McElwain, Abby Potowaki, and Sarah Reifsnyder.
- Food Science: Placed third out of five. Individuals: Jayden Holliday (4th), Sophia Reinert (7th), Lyla Deckman (9th) and Miranda Buettner (14th).
- Meat Evaluation: Placed second and will continue to the Big E. Individuals: Grayson Whaley (1st), Nina Field (7th), Sophia
Bonincontri (8th), and Nevada Abels (16th). - Milk Quality: Placed first and will compete at the FFA National Convention in October in Indianapolis. Individuals: Emily Troyer (3rd), Maddi Thomas (4th),
Kate Vanarsdale (17th), and Cole Hellwig (26th). - Nursey/Landscape: Placed first and will compete at the National Convention. Participants include Jonathan Vanbuskirk (1st), Ryan Layman (2nd), Frank Delucia (3rd), and Bianca Baker (5th).
- Vet Science: Placed second out of 20 teams and will continue to compete at the Big E. Individuals: Erin McGovern (1st), Clayton McGraw (10th), Allyson Knott, and Grace Bauer.
