White Sox Minor League Update: April 19, 2024
Danny Mendick cannot be stopped, Juan Carela’s offspeed baffles, and Ryan Galanie locks in
Charlotte Knights 5, Syracuse Mets 1 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
For the second straight night, the Charlotte Knights posted five runs en route to a win against the Syracuse Mets. And for the fourth straight game, Danny Mendick went deep.
Danny Mendick ... slugger extraordinaire.

The @whitesox infielder goes yard for a FOURTH consecutive game for @KnightsBaseball! pic.twitter.com/HsNkU5S4nC
Trading for Mendick in my fantasy league is beginning to look like it could become a steal. It was another multi-hit game for the infielder, with his other knock going for extra bases as well.
On the mound, opener John Brebbia, who is in Charlotte on a rehab assigment, tossed a shutout frame and fanned two in his lone inning of work. Starter Johan Dominguez piggybacked off of Brebbia and went 4 2⁄3 innings, giving up a solo homer for the lone tally for the Mets in this matchup.

All in all, it was a strong showing for a Knights team that has regained form as of late thanks in large part to the bat of Mendick and the work of veteran starters like Brad Keller and Chad Kuhl. Even if the choice is obvious, it’s up to our readers to vote for who deserves MVP honors in this one.
Mississippi Braves at Birmingham Barons (Postponed, rain, to an April 20 doubleheader)
Not much to say here, folks. It’s been awful stormy in Alabama lately!
Winston-Salem Dash 2, Bowling Green Hot Rods 1 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
Your author was at today’s matchup in Bowling Green as well. Odds are, though I haven’t decided yet, the lead art for this Update will come from this matchup.
Juan Carela was exceptional in this game, sporting quality offspeed pitches that the Hot Rods could NOT square up. When Carela’s night was finished, his line would read five innings pitched with just one hit allowed, no walks, and he struck out four. Carela, who the White Sox netted in the Kenyan Middleton deal with the Yankees and sits as the No. 34 White Sox prospect per South Side Sox, is in his age-22 season and likely bound for Birmingham at some point this season.
Offensively, Shawn Goosenberg stayed hot from the DH spot and scorched an early two-run homer that would account for the entirety of Winston-Salem’s scoring in this matchup.
That homer also comprised the entirety of the Dash hitting; yes, Winston-Salem won tonight with two runs on one hit.
Righthander José Ramírez took the ball for 3 2⁄3 innings of quality work, fanning six batters and allowing just one run. He was not, however, credited with a save, as with two outs in the ninth, Johnny Ray came in to record the final out and vultured his first save of the year.
An admirable bounce-back effort from a Dash team that allowed 13 runs the game prior. Who deserves to wear the MVP hardware in this game?
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 4, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 1 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
Another minor league affiliate, another opponent held to just one run. The Kannapolis bullpen was absolutely stellar in this four-run victory over Myrtle Beach. Four relievers combined for 4 1⁄3 innings of shutout ball with only one hit allowed and six total Ks. Third Round pick last summer Seth Keener was on the mound to start for the Ballers and, despite struggling with command, pitched for 4 2⁄3 innings with five strikeouts and four walks.
The #Ballers bullpen is nails. Jesus Mendez comes in for the 9th. He strikes out 2 and a really nice play by Edrick Felix to end the game. KCB win 4-1. #WhiteSox pic.twitter.com/ji9oAJowdg

On the offensive side of things, first baseman Ryan Galanie was locked-in at the dish. He stroked a pair of doubles that brought in a pair of runs in a three-hit performance. Catcher Luis Pineda would go on to belt the only longball for Kannapolis in this game, his only hit on the night.
Caden Connor and Ryan Galanie have combined for 5 of the #Ballers 9 hits tonight and 3 of the 5 XBH (all doubles for the two). The KCB take the 4-1 lead. #WhiteSox pic.twitter.com/v7ofQb2BdV

All in all, a solid win in Kannapolis to round out a perfect 3-0 day on the farm.
