‘Help!’ woman pleads as moss takes over her lawn…& gardeners recommend 29p bargain buy that’ll banish it in an instant
WAS your lawn once your pride and joy, only for it to look slightly dishevelled after a winter filled with harsh weather conditions?
Well, if you’re looking to spruce up your outdoor haven ready for spring, the first place to start is to tackle the likes of weeds and moss.
Gardening fans have suggested a bargain buy that’ll help to tackle moss[/caption]One person who desperately needed help was Mollie Moore, who took to Facebook group Gardening On A Budget Official and pleaded: “Help needed, best moss killer for my lawn.
“First cut today…omg. Moss has taken over.”
And it wasn’t long before the post was flooded with top tips and advice from gardening fans up and down the country, with one person sharing a popular suggestion…baking soda.
“Get the baking soda out sprinkle onto the moss leave for a few days/week it will kill only the moss,” one person suggested.
“When it’s brown/golden in colour rake it up put it in bin – even if it rains it will kill moss and it keeps it away for over a year or until you want to repeat it.”
The gardening whizz went on to say it’s a process they do every spring and it gets less every year normally, adding that “it works.”
While it’s most commonly found in your kitchen cupboards, the bargain buy, which you can nab for as little as 29p from your local supermarket, works great as a weed killer due to its alkaline properties.
So, how does it work?
Well, the high pH level of the powder helps to increase the pH of the soil to such levels that are inhabitable to moss.
Gardening expert at CrabGrassLawn.com have also praised the baking staple for being handy in the garden.

”The easiest and most efficient way of getting rid of moss is with plain old baking soda,” they told The Express.
“Since it’s completely natural, it won’t hurt the environment or your garden plants, soil, or water.”
However, before starting the process, they recommend checking the pH level of your soil.
While a pH value of 6.5 to 7.5 makes soil neutral, anything over 7.5 is considered alkaline and acidic when less than 6.5.
It’s important to remember that although moss can grow in a whole range of different environments, it’s most likely to flourish in acidic soil.
