As feared, it has now been confirmed that Ryan Sessegnon’s season is over after the Tottenham Hotspur defender suffered another hamstring injury, just weeks after returning from a similar injury that kept him out of action for almost a year.
Ryan Sessegnon joined Spurs way back in 2019, but to this day has still made just 57 appearances for the Lilywhites in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
The young left-back suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg in February of last season and was out on the sidelines for just under a whole year.
He returned for the recent FA Cup clash with Burnley in January, playing seven minutes as a substitute at the end of the game (Transfermarkt).
It was reported the following week that Sessegnon had suffered another setback. Sports scientist, Dr Rajpal Brar revealed the issue and its resulting surgery could see the player out until the summer, but would reduce the chances of it reoccurring (PA as relayed by Bracknell News).
Ryan Sessegnon is out for the season
Now, it has been confirmed by sources at Football Insider that Sessegnon will not be able to play for Spurs again this season, as he will need a “lengthy” recovery period.
It has been suggested Tottenham staff and their manager, Ange Postecoglou, do not expect Sessegnon to return to training at all this season, and that he will be back for pre-season.
Sessegnon will require “a lengthy rest and rehabilitation period” following his surgery and he will now target a first-team return for the 2024/25 campaign.
Spurs Web Opinion
I really hope Sessegnon is able to overcome this latest obstacle, and by the sounds of it, the positive news is that he should never suffer another hamstring issue. However, I do not think he will play for Spurs ever again, as we will very likely look to move him on this summer.
