I was a pale teen but then got obsessed with nasal sprays & tanning…I love sunbeds so much I don’t care what people say
A WOMAN has revealed that she used to be a pale teenager but then got obsessed with tanning.
19-year-old Savannah, from Northern Ireland, explained that she uses sunbeds, nasal sprays and accelerator creams to get her glow.
Such creams and sprays contain specific ingredients that are absorbed into the skin to encourage the movement of melanocytes to the surface of the skin, maximising the tanning potential of a sunbed session.
But despite the dangers and risks involved with such tanning practices, the beauty fan recently took to social media to discuss her tanning routine.
Posting on TikTok, under the username @savannahvieirax, Savannah shared her “sunbed journey.”
She first posted a selfie of her, looking rather pale, prior to her tanning obsession.
Shortly after, the young woman then shared a variety of pictures of her looking very tanned.
In one picture, she held up her hand next to a friends’, showing off a clear colour difference and Savannah’s bronzed glow.
Savannah later explained that it took her a “few months” to build her colour.
She noted: “It took me a good while because I was so pale and nothing was helping me go dark.
“I was getting colour but not the colour I wanted so I started nasals and that boosted it the most for me.”
She also revealed: “It took me AGES to tan my face and hands but then I started the nasals and it really boosted my tan that way, that’s the only way my face would tan.”
She also confirmed that she goes on sunbeds for “between 13-15 minutes” at a time.
She added: “It just depends how I’m feeling.”
In another clip, Savannah confirmed her obsession for tanning.
When showing off her tan, she explained how she feels about being tanned, as she mouthed to an audio that said: “Me? Obsessed with you? Yes.”
Savannah’s clip has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 91,200 views.
It has 2,866 likes, 34 comments, 236 saves and 20 shares.
But while some social media users praised her tan, others were quick to point out the dangers.
One person said: “90% of visible ageing (wrinkles, pigmentation, sagging, sunspots) is caused by the sun!
“Not too late to stop.”
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), sunbeds are as dangerous as smoking.
Like the sun, they give out harmful UV rays that damage the DNA in your skin cells.
Over time, this may lead to malignant melanoma – the deadliest form of skin cancer – studies have shown.
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), there is significant evidence to show that using tanning beds causes melanoma.
They report that sunbeds increase the risk of skin cancer by up to 20 per cent, and also state that they have no positive benefits to our health.
Cancer Research backed this statistic, adding that ” there is no such thing as a safe tan from UV radiation”.
When it comes to nasal sprays, some nasal spray sellers insist their products are safe – but the British Association of Dermatologists’ Dr Catherine Borysiewicz says the only safe tan is fake tan.
She said: These products have not been studied properly, you don’t know what you are using, that’s the bottom line.
“These products are very, very dangerous. They can potentially lead to cancer.
“I talk about the skin risks, but who knows what else it might be doing. It’s incredibly worrying.
“If you’re using Melanotan, stop. Don’t use it any more and really importantly make sure your skin is assessed and checked.
“Be honest with the doctors that you’re seeing so they’re aware of the potential risks you may have been exposed to so your moles can be properly checked and analysed if needed.”
