Resumed after nearly one-and-a-half decades, the excavations in the southern wedge of Tamil Nadu have yielded a wealth of materials, including gold, metals and human remains, that will help archaeologists reconstruct the framework of a civilisation that, by all accounts so far, was glorious and fairly advanced with bustling commerce, trade, general prosperity and transcontinental arrivals
