Emilia Clarke Details Scary Marvel Security For Secret Invasion Role
Emilia Clarke admits she's scared to reveal any details about her role in Secret Invasion, the upcoming Marvel series set to air on Disney+.
Emilia Clarke is officially joining the MCU with Secret Invasion and she revealed how incredibly serious Marvel's security team is about keeping her role confidential. Clarke, 34, rose to fame by playing Daenerys Targaryen in the mega-successful HBO drama Game of Thrones. Since portraying the Mother of Dragons, Clarke has also starred in hit movies such as Me Before You and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Secret Invasion will launch Clarke into the ever-expanding universe of Marvel. The upcoming Disney+ series is based on the Marvel comic book of the same name. It will be set at a time when the Skrulls, the shape-shifting aliens introduced in Captain Marvel, have infiltrated all aspects of civilization on Earth. Clarke joins Samuel L. Jackson, who will reprise his role as Nick Fury, and Ben Mendelsohn, who will return as Talos, a Skrull. Secret Invasion is set to start filming in August and is expected to premiere next year.
On Wednesday, Clarke confirmed her part in Secret Invasion while guesting on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. However, the actress was careful not to reveal any more details other than the upcoming series' title. The Game of Thrones alum said she's already "scared" of Marvel's security team and joked that she feels as if she's being followed since saying yes to the project.
"I'm already scared. The first people I spoke to from Marvel were their security team and I am convinced that there is a man outside my house. There's been a car parked there for a long time, and I swear to God, he's undercover."
Fallon pointed out that Clarke must be trained to keep secrets because Game of Thrones was notoriously good at preventing spoilers. The 34-year-old star agreed but insisted that Marvel's security was on another level. "That's what I thought, but they schooled me. And so, I don't know what to do," the actress added.
While Clarke's role in Secret Invasion remains top-secret, fans are already abuzz with theories. Some speculate that she will be playing a superhero character such as Jessica Drew, who in the comics takes on the mantle of Spider-Woman. Clarke could also take on the role of S.W.O.R.D. director Abigail Brand after WandaVision introduced the agency tasked to monitor extra-terrestrial affairs. Another possible theory is that Clarke will play Veranke, Queen of the Skrulls.
Marvel fans will likely get more clues about Clarke's undisclosed role as Secret Invasion begins production. The franchise may be highly protective against spoilers, but it does want to tease the public to draw in viewers. As Marvel continues to roll out Phase 4 of the MCU, Clarke's casting adds star power into its roster of upcoming shows and films. Whether the actress will portray a hero or a villain, her entry into the MCU is definitely exciting news.
