Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Only Gave One Character A Good Ending
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 4 doesn't give its characters happy endings except for one, and Prudence is the lucky recipient.
WARNING: Spoilers for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina ahead
Of all the characters in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, only one receives a satisfying ending in the last episode, and that's Prudence. In a final season beset by the formidable Eldritch Terrors, it was anticipated the main characters would finally receive rewarding conclusions to their stories; however, this did not end up being the case. Prudence Blackwood is the only player who earns a decent conclusion because she successfully enacts revenge on her father Faustus Blackwood.
At the end of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Sabrina sacrifices herself to save her family, friends, and reality itself. Though all of the witches have access to resurrection spells and locations, the show boldly opts to keep Sabrina dead. Her friends do not receive conclusive arcs, and the last time we see all of the most interesting characters are at her funeral, mourning. Even her aunts' stories end with them grieving over a memorial statue of Sabrina at the Academy of Unseen Arts. Prudence is a rarity since she does get some semblance of a happy ending.
Prudence Blackwood has long suffered at the hands of her father and former leader of the Church of the Night, Faustus Blackwood. While Prudence is the quintessential mean girl of Sabrina's school for witches, she only desires her father's approval and love. After years of emotional and verbal abuse and manipulation, she finally realizes how toxic her father is when he poisons the coven at the end of season 2. With Ambrose Spellman's help, she resolves to find and destroy Faustus once and for all. Prudence finally gets the chance in season 4 by beheading him and later scattering his body parts all around the world. Faustus bears the mark of Cain via Lilith, which renders him impervious to death but not to pain. The only way to stop him from unleashing more terror upon the world is to separate him limb from limb, which Prudence does so with gusto and a chainsaw.
This moment is two seasons' worth of buildup and it does not disappoint. Prudence is so determined to locate him that she spends a large part of season 3 searching for him throughout the world. When she tracks Faustus in Scotland, she is ready to dispose of him immediately, but Ambrose holds her back so they can question him later. Prudence is able to behead him in season 4 and keep his head to inform them when the next Eldritch Terror arrives. Though Faustus manages to reunite with the rest of his rotting body, it is short-lived; Prudence establishes her power over him and peace of mind by disposing of his body parts in places he'll never be able to find in the series finale.
By carrying this out, Prudence ensures that Faustus won't harm the coven again. It's also very satisfying for Prudence since she gets to punish her long-time abuser after years of torment. Her arc is a bright spot in the otherwise dark and dismal finale. Because Netflix canceled The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, fans will be able to see if Faustus makes a comeback in the upcoming comic book series in lieu of season 5.
