The Voice: Why Ryan Gallagher Was Not Seen During The Live Playoffs
After competing in the 4-way knockout, Ryan Gallagher was not seen during the live playoffs. Here's everything to know about why he was not there.
The live playoffs on The Voice started on Monday, November 30, and things kicked off when the winner of the 4-way knockout was revealed (and moved on in the competition). Before the winner of the 4-way knockout was announced, Carson Daly stated that Ryan Gallagher from team Kelly had dropped out of the competition, which left many fans in shock and confused. They wondered why he had left the competition.
At the start of the show, Carson announced that Ryan had dropped out of the competition and that the votes for the 4-way knockout would be between the other three contestants that competed. There was no further statement and the winner was determined to be Taryn Papa. Taryn was re-joining team Blake and the top 17 in The Voice live shows. Earlier in the competition, Ryan stated that both his mother and grandmother had been diagnosed with COVID-19. Fans speculated that this was the reason he dropped out. However, that wasn't really the reason.
Due to the fact that the reason for Ryan dropping out was not made clear until after the live shows, fans of The Voice became concerned. Some fans then took to Twitter, saying that they hoped his family was okay. That's because they already knew that there were COVID-19 diagnoses in his family. See some fan reactions to him leaving the show below:
Shortly after the live shows concluded, it was determined that Ryan did not quit the singing competition, but was actually disqualified. According to The Wrap, Ryan broke strict COVID-19 protocols that were set up to keep the coaches and other contestants safe. This left the producers no choice but to disqualify him. He could no longer compete because he didn't follow the rules and regulations.
With Ryan now disqualified, team Kelly was not represented in the 4-way knockout. Her team would need to continue on with just the four members that won their respective knockouts (or were stolen by another The Voice coach.) The show moved on normally, but Ryan did seem to be missed by many viewers.
With only three live shows happening during The Voice, it could be anyone's game. The Top 9 are set to perform on Monday, December 7, with the Top 5 heading to the finale being revealed the next day. This disqualification shows that the producers are very serious about the safety of artists and coaches.
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8PM EST on NBC.
