Hunter Biden is the second son of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
His mother and younger sister, Naomi, were killed in an automobile crash when he was just two years of age on December 18, 1972.
Biden and his older brother Beau were also seriously injured in the crash.
He graduated from Yale University and currently serves as a lawyer and investment advisor.
The 50-year-old has come under scrutiny after a range of controversies have recently come to light.
Notably, the former VP’s son has been accused of serving the “strategic interests” of China’s government and military while he served as a board member of Beijing-based investment firm BHR Partners.
“In 2013, then-Vice President Biden and his son Hunter flew aboard Air Force Two to China,” author and political consultant Peter Schweizer told FoxNews.
“Ten days later, Hunter Biden’s firm scored a $1.5 billion deal with a subsidiary of the Chinese government’s Bank of China.”
Biden also served on the board of Ukrainian gas giant Burisma between 2014 and 2019. The job paid him up to $50,000 a month, according to reporting by Bloomberg News.
President Trump has repeatedly alleged corruption on Biden’s part during his time at the firm, though has offered no evidence of wrongdoing.
In July, Hunter reportedly settled a $450,000 tax debt from the District of Columbia for unpaid state income taxes.
And in March, he again made headlines after missing a child support deadline regarding a child who the court ruled was his.
In November of 2019, he was accused of smoking crack while in Washington, DC.
It was also revealed that he was booted from the Navy Reserves in 2014 after a two-year stint after failing a drug test.
In an ABC interview from October 2019, Biden acknowledged that he had “done estimable things and things I regret,” but insisted he was now in “probably the best place I’ve ever been in my life.”
What are the trafficking claims?
Most damning of the controversies includes a recent report allegedly linking Hunter to sending “thousands of dollars” to Russian and Ukrainian women who lived in the US.
Senate Republicans released an 87-page report on his work with Ukrainian gas company Burisma on Wednesday, September 23.
The report found that two Obama administration officials, Amos Hochstein and George Kent, were concerned back in 2015 that Vice President Joe Biden’s Ukraine policy would be a conflict of interest with Hunter’s ties to the gas company.
The report alleges the Obama administration ignored the “glaring warning signs” when Hunter Biden joined the board of a company owned by a corrupt Ukrainian oligarch.
The report also claims that Hunter sent “thousands of dollars” to Russian and Ukrainian women residing in the US who have “subsequently wired funds they have received from Hunter to individuals located in Russia and Ukraine”.
According to the report, some of the transactions appear to be linking to an “‘Eastern European prostitution or human trafficking ring.’”
Additionally, the Senate report alleges that Hunter “formed significant and consistent financial relationships” with the founder of Burisma, Mykola Zlochevsky.
It additionally states that Hunter and his business partner Devon Archer’s firms “made millions of dollars from that association” during his father’s vice presidency.
A spokesperson for the Biden campaign has yet to address the allegations.
