Batwoman Star Ruby Rose Breaks Silence On Arrowverse Exit
Batwoman star Ruby Rose discusses her exit from the season 1 Arrowverse show for the first time since it was announced earlier this month.
Ruby Rose, whose exit from Batwoman was announced last week, has spoken out for the first time since then. Rose took on the role of Kate Kane/Batwoman just before the Arrowverse's Elseworlds crossover in 2018. Many fans enjoyed her introduction to The CW, especially praising her chemistry with Melissa Benoist's Supergirl. Batwoman was well-received enough to earn her own standalone series, which premiered in 2019 and just aired its season 1 finale this month.
Batwoman has been a welcome addition to the Arrowverse, earning a season 2 renewal earlier this year. That's why fans were shocked when Rose revealed her exit from the series. At the time, she spoke of it being her decision, but offered no concrete reason why. However, a later report stated "it wasn’t 100-percent her decision, calling Rose's exit "a breakup" fueled by the show not being "a good fit."
Now, Rose has broken her silence on her Batwoman exit in a new Instagram post. In it, she shared an edited video of her time as Kate Kane, alongside a caption thanking everyone involved in the show. Rose also spoke about the mystery surrounding her exit, explaining, "I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all." Rose ended by expressing her confidence in season 2, saying, "I’m sure next season will be amazing also."

Since Rose announced her exit, fans have started wondering what it will mean for season 2. The CW intends to recast Batwoman, with producers reassuring fans it will be with a member of the LGBTQ community. However, it's unknown if the recast will actually be addressed on the show or ignored. Batwoman does have an ongoing plot point with characters switching faces thanks to Kate's sister Alice, so the writers do have a built in story device to explain it.
Though Rose's statement doesn't offer any clarity about the circumstances of her exit, it's nice to hear she still has a positive attitude about her time on Batwoman. Her mention of "those who know, know..." suggests there may be more to the story than what's currently out there. At any rate, Rose seems to remain supportive of Batwoman season 2 and whichever lucky person nabs the leading role. As season 2 won't premiere until 2021, those behind the show still have some time to find the right actress. At least the new Kate Kane will know they have the support of the Arrowverse's original Batwoman when that happens.
