WITH salons closed for the foreseeable future, many of our nails will be in some serious need of TLC.
And for those of you desperate to remove your old acrylic nails at-home one TikTok user has come up with a solution.
Olivia Quinn shared the how-to video on her account, where it has since received thousands of views.
Captioning the clip, she wrote: “How to remove dip/ acrylic nails without damaging your nails + keeping your natural strength.”
She begins with a disposable dental floss pick and simply slides the string under her false nail at the end nearest the nail bed.
Explaining she adds: “Slide the stick under your nail and just keep pushing it forward until the nail pops off.”
In the video Olivia’s nail comes off with ease, leaving fellow beauty fans seriously impressed.
For those of you who can’t get your hands on flossing picks, there are other ways of removing acrylics at home.
Acetone, tin foil wraps and filing can also work – read our full guide for at home removal, here.
Why should I be careful taking off acrylic or gel nails?
If you peel off your false nails without using one of these methods, you risk scraping off the top layers of your delicate nails.
This can lead to breakages or unsightly white patches on your cuticles.
Scrubbing at your nails without caution could also lead to them becoming coarse, dry and flaky.
This affects the skin texture, making any future manicures look a lot less polished.
