Gaffer pleased with win and points…
Broughty Athletic secured their third league win on the trot, their fourth in all competitions and their fourth clean sheet in a row as they ran out 3-0 winners over visitors Scone Thistle on Saturday at a rain-soaked and blustery Whitton Park.
It was a game the Fed had to win to keep in slight touch of league leaders Carnoustie Panmure and also and game for their Scottish Junior Cup preparations as they head to face Ayrshire side Darvel Juniors next Saturday. Read what the gaffer had to say below…
“On Saturday we were down to the bare bones in terms of squad numbers so to come away with three points, another clean sheet and to score three goals was really pleasing, especially in such poor conditions with the winds and rain.
Some people might have looked at last weeks result, the 10-0 win and expected Saturday’s game to be a formality, however, it’s never as easy as that when you play a team twice in such a short space of time. Scones game plan last week was to open up and have a go at us, we managed to take advantage of that and score early through Bryan Duell, we took a much different approach to the game and we had to be a lot more patient and chip away until we got our opportunities and goals.
If I’m being critical then we could have scored a good few more goals in the second half when we were really on top of the game to add to the goals we did score through Stuart McConnachie (pictured) and Dueller, we missed some good opportunities in front of their goal when we only had the keeper to beat.
Looking forward to next weekend, weather permitting, we travel to Ayrshire to play Darvel Juniors in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Junior Cup. Their home game was off on Saturday so a couple of them made the journey up to watch us. As for our squad for next week, hopefully, we will have four or five boys back in contention and we can go through there and give a good account of ourselves in the game.
This will be the biggest game some of our boys have ever played in so far and it will be a good experience for them. The only thing that matters though is being in the next round of the cup. Darvel are doing well this season and sitting top of their league so we will give them the respect they deserve but if we play to our potential I believe were a match for anyone in the junior game…”
