PASSENGERS have reported chaotic scenes at Heathrow Airport as the departure boards and check-in systems stopped working today – sparking cancellations and delays.
Travellers reported “pandemonium” finding their departure gates, missing their flights and long queues to get the correct information.
A Heathrow spokesman said: “We are continuing to experience technical issues which we are currently being resolved.
“We have additional passenger ambassadors being deployed across our terminals to help direct our customers to their gates for departure.
“We apologise for the disruption this is causing our passengers.”
They said the airport’s departure boards and check-in systems are down and have advised travellers to speak to the “passenger ambassadors in purple uniform”.

Passenger Che Gannarelli tweeted: “They’re having a heck of a time at Heathrow T5. Loads of systems down. Gates being announced at last minute by frantic staff. Boards not updating. My gate changed last minute. My flight delayed boarding as they try to get passengers here. Folk missing flights.”
Traveller Simon Stroughair tweeted: “When things don’t work at Heathrow, things REALLY don’t work. Utter bedlam!”
Becca Johnson said: “British Airways can you actually announce that you need to speak to someone to find your gate? The same vague announcement keeps saying to check the website, which is not being updated, instead of explaining the problem with the boards and what people need to do.”
Another disgruntled passenger tweeted: “Heathrow is a mess today. The flight display boards are not working and there is widespread chaos.”

One wrote: “There are no gate PA announcements. We eventually went to the flight desk where staff weren’t even aware of problems! Hence I’m now sat on a plane, but waiting for the 70 passengers who also don’t know the screens aren’t working. Shambles.”
Away from the IT problems, Storm Dennis caused disruption at Heathrow Airport today – with around 60 per cent of flights delayed by over 30 minutes, along with some cancellations.
