ANTIOCH — A suspect sought after a longtime barber was run over by a vehicle last week turned herself over to police custody, authorities said.
Ruby Delgadillo, 28, met with an Antioch police officer, Antioch police said in a statement. Delgadillo was accompanied by a lawyer, but declined to provide any statement to officers.
She had been sought on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and was booked into Martinez county jail, but exact charges against her were not immediately available Wednesday evening.
Around 3:45 p.m. Dec. 4, officers responded to Delta Barber Shop, 1631 A Street, for a report of a vehicle collision that damaged a storefront. When officers arrived, they found a 63-year-old man suffering from major injuries.
After speaking with the man, identified as shop owner Brian Martin, and other witnesses, officers learned that an argument happened after the man provided a haircut to Delgadillo’s son.
Moments later, Delgadillo got into her blue 2006 Toyota Prius and drove toward Martin, knocking him through the shop’s glass storefront. She then drove away with her son, and was not found afterward.
Martin was taken to an area hospital for treatment. According to a GoFundMe fund-raising account set up by his niece last week that has raised more than $6,300 toward a $25,000 goal, Martin has since been released from hospital care and has begun rehabilitation.
