D23 Expo 2019: Star Wars series ‘The Mandalorian’ drops trailer and social media falls in love
A big chunk of the programming at the Anaheim con is devoted to content for Disney's upcoming streaming service, which debuts Nov. 12.
With movies, games, books and even a land dedicated to it, can there ever be such as thing as too much “Star Wars”?
We’ll borrow a quote from Yoda for this one: “Always in motion is the future” and the future is “The Mandalorian,” a new show in the Star Wars universe coming to Disney+ this fall.
The trailer for the show (which has nothing to do with time-traveling DeLoreans) dropped during Disney’s D23 Expo, which is happening at the Anaheim Convention Center through Sunday. A big presentation at the con was devoted to content for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, which debuts Nov. 12.
Here’s what the official Disney blurb says about the series, the first live-action “Star Wars” show: “Set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, ‘The Mandalorian’ follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
Obviously, people are excited about it, especially if you’ve been missing the Boba and Jango Fetts of a galaxy far, far away or if you’ve been a big fan of the things Jon Favreau (one of the executive producers of the series) has done with Marvel and Disney properties such as “Iron Man” and “The Lion King.”
What did this viewer think of the trailer? Remember at the end of “Return of the Jedi” when the Ewoks turned the Stormtrooper helmets into a xylophone? The opening of the trailer was like that but with some of David Fincher’s “Se7en.” And it features Carl Weathers AND Werner Herzog, so we are totally down for that. And is that someone frozen in carbonite, we see?
Yeah, this looks impressive, but you don’t have to take our word for it.
Here’s what the internet has to say about this entry in the Star Wars universe:
