Matt Willis reveals he always thinks he’ll be judged as the ‘d***head from Busted’ in film auditions
MATT Willis has admitted he always thinks his film auditions will go “terribly” and casting directors will judge him as a “d***head from Busted”.
The musician, 36, stars in Madness In The Method – a quirky new comedy-crime flick by Jay And Silent Bob star Jason Mewes that also features Teri Hatcher and Vinnie Jones.
He based his eccentric casting director character, Anthony Costalino, on his own misconceptions – as he insists the reality of auditions is that they’re “awesome” and the people are “f***ing nice”.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online about the role, he explained: “I think it comes from my kind of idea of what I think castings are going to be like.
“Maybe it’s my weird f****d up head that tells me that things are going to go terribly wrong or they actually do. What’s that saying? You suffer more in your mind than in your reality.
“I always think that castings are going to go terrible, there’s that f***ing d***head from Busted, I aways think people are going to think that [laughs].

“So I kind of based it on what I thought that would be like, when actually every casting I go to is awesome. People are really f***ing nice. I’ve seen more women casting directors these days. They’re charming lovely people and so I don’t know where I get this idea that they’re going to be horrible.”
As he’s grown older Matt has become more selective with the roles he auditions for, but when he was a teenager he said he felt like a piece of meat.
“When I first started doing auditions when I was 14, I remember feeling like a piece of cow. Like sit in a corridor, come in, say two lines to camera and next. But I don’t really do that anymore.”
Matt’s role in Madness is integral to the plot. Jason, who plays himself, murders Anthony while trying to distance himself from his legendary cult comedy alter-ego.
“I didn’t realise quite how integral he was to everything else that followed on,” said Matt. “I thought I’m in it, and then I kinda don’t want to give too much away, I’m in it and then I die.

“I was like ‘OK cool, I’ve done a few of those roles in the past.’ But this, he keeps coming back and kind of intertwined in the whole role and the whole film.”
While Matt solely acted opposite Jason, he was particularly impressed by Desperate Housweives star Teri’s turn in the film.
He said: “I watched the movie the other day for the first time and f***ing Teri Hatcher is a stand out superstar in it. She’s amazing, she’s such a f***ing great actress, she’s so incredible.
Despite the stellar names he is now sharing credits with, Matt insists Busted remains his primary focus, with a move to Hollywood not on his radar.
However, he is hopeful that as his career progresses he will spend more time acting than playing music.

“At the minute Busted takes priority. It kinda has to. I’ve got two other people in the band but we have some work commitments at the minute and then we don’t know what’s going to happen.
“It’s one of those things where we will never break up ever again because we don’t have to. We’re three adults who love each other in some f***ed up way, and if any of us wanted to do anything else for whatever reason, we would be totally cool with the other person doing that.
“I think we all have things that we wanna do in our lives, like I really love acting. I really wanna focus on that the older I get.
“I see myself doing less music and more acting if it goes the way I feel right now.”
FrightFest presents the European Premiere of Madness in the Method tomorrow at Cineworld Leicester Square.
