AB InBev CEO Is Thirsty For Deals: “We’re Always Looking For Opportunities, Always”
CEO Carlos Brito could be coming out with cannabis beverages.
Carlos Brito is a builder. As CEO of Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) he’s built the company into a massive brewer with 500 beer brands and operations in one hundred countries. And it looks like he’s scouting around for new ways to make it even bigger.
Famous for its Budweiser and Bud Light brands, the Belgium-based brewer’s revenues surged 23 percent in 2018 to about $55 billion. AB InBev is ranked at Number 192 on the Global Fortune 500 list of the largest companies in the world.
“We’re always looking for opportunities, always,” says Brito. “Our portfolio today is an amazing portfolio. But of course as we look beyond beer there are opportunities.”
Another one of those opportunities could be adding cannabis drinks to AB InBev’s lineup. The company is partnering with Canada’s Tilray to research non-alcoholic beverages using marijuana. When asked how those drinks might taste, Brito says it’s too early to say.
“No, no, I haven’t sampled anything,” he says, laughing.
