LIVERPOOL want Alex McCarthy to replace Simon Mignolet as Alisson’s back-up, according to reports.
The £67million Brazilian has nailed down his spot as first-choice stopper after an impressive debut season.
And with unfancied Mignolet eyeing a summer exit, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a new No2 option.
Saints star McCarthy, 29, was on the German’s radar last summer and The Mirror are reporting that he will make a move in the current window.
The Englishman earned his first international cap last year and has kept his place as No1 under new boss Ralph Hassenhuttl.
McCarthy would have a choice to make over an exit, with limited first-team football on offer in the North West.
Mignolet, 31, managed just two appearances this season and knows his spell in the wilderness in unlikely to end.
Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard is set to raid his club for two new faces as he bids to challenge Celtic.
