The distribution process of Saffron bulbs among local farmers kicked off in Balkh province of Afghanistan on Saturday.
The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) Nasir Ahmad Durani formally launched the distribution of Saffron bulbs during his visit to Balkh.
Mr. Durani also launched the distribution process of other equipment which are needed for the cultivation of Saffron.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) in a statement said Saffron plants are being cultivated in 350 acres of land in Balkh.
The statement further added that the ministry has stepped up efforts to further expand the Saffron fields in this province.
The ministry also added that the Saffron harvest reached 140 kilograms in 2016 which increased to 200 kilograms in 2018.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said the ministry predicts that the Saffron harvest will reach to 300 kilograms this year.
