Mexico's specialty retailer and financial-services provider Grupo Elektra SA (BMV: Elektra) announced Monday it has completed the $780 million acquisition of Spartanburg, S.C.-based payday lender Advance America, Cash Advance Centers Inc. (NYSE: AEA). Advance shareholders approved the deal, which pays $10.50 per share, according to Thomson Reuters. The price includes Advance's approximately $122 million in outstanding debt on top of its market capitalization of nearly $658 million.

The next Arkansas football coach will be Weber State coach John L. Smith, according to multiple reports. The Associated Press first reported Monday that the University of Arkansas had decided to hire Smith, a former Arkansas special teams coordinator, as an interim head coach to replace Bobby Petrino. Virginia Tech has decided to fire basketball coach Seth Greenberg and will announce it during a 4 p.m. press conference on Monday, according to multiple reports. Teel reported early Monday afternoon that a hastily called press conference would be about a change in head men's basketball coach.

Bo Mattingly, a radio show host in Arkansas, first reported that the school will announce its newest head coach on Monday afternoon. The sinking of the stock, which cost Wal-Mart $4.5 Billion, comes after its investors watched as the companies Mexican subsidiary tried to cover up accusations of corruption in their growth practices.
