Couple given a FREE house are branded ‘ungrateful’ on Ugly House To Lovely House after calling it a ‘monstrosity’ and spending £350k on renovations
A MARRIED couple who described the home they were given for FREE as a “monstrosity” have been labelled “ungrateful” by outraged Ugly House to Lovely House viewers.
Appearing on the most recent episode of the Channel 4 show, Warwickshire couple Steve and Celine inherited the 1960s home 18 months ago – but admitted they found the house “embarrassing”.

Although the couple inherited the property after Celine’s life-long family friend Sheila passed away, the full-time mum said she felt “a sense of dreadful shame” every time she walked past.
The mum-of-three also admitted the house still had sentimental value for her having grown up just two doors down from the property and revealed she wanted to transform it into a place she could raise her own family in.
In order to turn the lacklustre property into the home of their dreams ,the couple sought help from George Clark to overhaul the property with a budget of £150,000.
However, the house – which the couple described as the “shabbiest on the street” – ended up costing a whopping total of £350,000 to renovate.

While George agreed that the dated home was an “acquired taste”, he enlisted the help of architect Graeme Williamson to transform it into a more contemporary living space.
With its rotting wood, chipped paintwork and dated style, Celine said: “It’s a monstrosity – it doesn’t look very pretty.”
She continued: “It does look like it’s about to fall down. People have said this house isn’t ugly but I think they’re just being polite.”
Unsurprisingly, Celine’s comments sparked outrage among viewers.
One user described the couple as ‘ungrateful gits’[/caption]
Another called them out for complaining about the house’s appearance[/caption]
A third accused them of being ‘snobs’[/caption]
One wrote: “Tonight on #uglyhouse. Family given free house and they’re ungrateful gits.”
Another raged: “Oh so you don’t like the house you’ve inherited? Ya boo sucks to be you doesn’t it.”
A third added: “Right I am 10 mins in to #uglyhouse and it is p***ing me off!
“‘Oh I hate my gifted house, it’s ugly!’ Gifted!!”
Meanwhile, other disgruntled viewers argued that the couple should have sold the property for the amount they spent redoing it.
“I love how they casually double the budget. Cause who hasn’t got a spare £150k lying around?”, another responded.
The extensive renovations ended up costing the couple a whopping £350,000 in total[/caption]
The couple have now moved into the Warwickshire property[/caption]
After completely overhauling the outside of the property and replacing the rotting timber with metal slates, Celine also had her dream open-plan kitchen installed.
Following the completion of the renovation, Steve said: “We’ve still got a few invoices to come in but we’re around £350,00 now.”
Celine added: “Because I inherited it, we’re in a better situation than if we’d had to buy the house as well.”
