How major US stock indexes fared Tuesday
Stocks faded Tuesday afternoon and finished the day mostly lower as industrial companies and retailers fell. Smaller and more U.S.-focused companies slumped after setting records the last few days.
On Tuesday:
The S&P 500 index declined 8.57 points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,724.44.
The Dow Jones industrial average retreated 178.88 points, or 0.7 percent, to 24,834.41.
The Nasdaq composite sagged 15.58 points, or 0.2 percent, to 7,378.46.
The Russell 2000 index of smaller company stocks skidded 12.20 points, or 0.7 percent, to 1,625.24.
For the week:
The S&P 500 is up 11.47 points, or 0.4 percent.
The Dow is up 119.32 points, or 0.5 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 24.12 points, or 0.3 percent.
The Russell 2000 is down 1.39 points, or 0.
