Nigerian Senate has ordered that investigation into recent killings in Nasarawa state and it urged the all security agencies to beef up security across the country.
NAIJ.com reports that during the plenary on Tuesday, April 17, senator Sulaiman Adokwe, while citing an Order 42, drew the attention of the Senate to the crisis in the southern district of Nasarawa state by armed militia.
He said the armed militia were occupying four out of five local governments in the district.
The deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, in his comments urged that Senate to send its condolence to Senator Adokwe and other families of people of Nasarawa who lost their loved ones.
He said: “Send our condolence to Sen. Adokwe, his people & all others who lost their loved ones in the killings. We should not be ashamed to ask for help from other countries. We should resolve the security issue in the country, we are representatives of the people."
Senate thereafter resolved to observe a minute silence in honour of 32 lives lost so far; urged President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the armed forces and other security operatives to come to the aid of the citizens and restore normalcy all over the country; and mandate the Senate ad-hoc committee on the review of the security infrastructure in the country to investigate the matter.
