Former presidential aide Vladislav Surkov appeared in the premiere performance of the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya “Demons” based on Dostoevsky’s novel. The play is directed by Konstantin Bogomolov, and this is his first production after being appointed artistic director of the theater. The run-through of the performance for the invited guests took place in Barvikha.
The head of the theater’s PR department, Maria Malkina, told RBC that the former Kremlin administration official does not appear on the stage. “There is a video in the play where Vladislav Surkov pronounces Dostoevsky’s text,” she explained.
The representative of the theater clarified that the premiere of the performance was supposed to take place on October 21, but due to the order of the governor of the Moscow region it was postponed to November 10 and 11.
The first screenings of “Demons” are planned in the Barvikha Luxury Village concert hall. Prices for the premiere reach 50 thousand rubles. per ticket, and the VIP box can only be redeemed as a whole: 12 seats for 600 thousand rubles.
In early September, Surkov published an untitled poem in the Russian Pioneer magazine, in which he compared cocaine and freedom. Earlier for the same magazine, the politician wrote an article dedicated to the Catalan artist Joan Miró.
Surkov is considered to be the author of a novel about corruption, “Nearby”, which was also published in “Russian Pioneer” by Nathan Dubovitsky. A performance of the same name was staged at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater (director – Kirill Serebrennikov). Surkov also wrote lyrics for the rock group Agatha Christie.
Surkov worked in the presidential administration and government for over 20 years in total. In September 2013, he became an assistant to the president and headed the department for cooperation with the CIS. He oversaw the issues of socio-economic cooperation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine. Earlier, since 2011, Surkov served as Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, and since 2012 – Head of the Government Staff.
At the end of January 2020, it became known that Surkov had submitted his resignation, but for several weeks the Kremlin did not officially confirm his departure. The decree on the resignation of Surkov was signed by Vladimir Putin only on 18 February.
Later, Surkov explained his resignation by “a changed context.” “After all, I was mainly involved in Donbass and Ukraine. The context has changed, let’s say. That is, in the end I had to continue to deal with them. But the context has changed, ”he said. At the same time, Surkov confirmed that Surkov had confirmed that he had wanted to leave the Kremlin for a long time, at least since 2013.
