Report Pisa could sack Gilardino to bring in Giampaolo
There are growing reports that Pisa could pull the plug on Alberto Gilardino following today’s defeat to Sassuolo, with Marco Giampaolo approached to take over.
The newly-promoted club knew it would be a tough campaign, but find themselves in joint last place alongside Hellas Verona after 23 rounds.
Gilardino struggling to turn Pisa around
They were beaten 3-1 by Sassuolo this afternoon on home turf and now have just one victory, 11 draws and 11 defeats in Serie A this season.
Gilardino was sitting out a one-match touchline ban and so had to watch from the stands.
Nonetheless, it was unusual that Pisa did not send anyone to speak with the media after the final whistle.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the club is losing faith in Gilardino’s ability to turn this situation around and a decision could be made to axe him within 48 hours.
The first choice to take over is Giampaolo, who has been a free agent since his experience at Lecce ended in June 2025.
His former clubs include Milan, Torino, Sampdoria, Empoli and Cremonese.
