At a Cabinet briefing, Taoiseach Micheal Martin unveiled a range of new measures, including the closure of nightclubs and the return of mandatory table service in bars and restaurants.
McGregor, who is the owner of The Black Forge Inn in Dublin, was less than impressed with the announcements, and unleashed a cavalcade of tweets to express this.
He said: “Embarrassing “leadership”. Messengers. Lap dogs. Get this system and shred it fully!
“Disband nphet. Realign the hse to do it’s job. Formed 2005 to assist our hospitals. Instead annihilated. 11.5m public-funded hse money paid to media entities. This year alone. Appalling.
“To be at this level of vaccination % yet going backwards, and attempting now to talk mandating. Laughable.
“Shame on you all in current power. EU lackeys. The tracks of this gravy train will so be realigned and set to its rightful destination of an Irish red brick wall.

“It is time to talk Ireland leaving the European Union.
“We do not have leaders in Ireland, we have messengers. Subordinates.”
This is not the first time that McGregor has taken aim at the Irish government and its decisions concerning Covid-19 guidelines.
When Micheal Martin announced a curfew for bars and restaurants back in November, McGregor once again expressed his disapproval, although not in as drastic a manner.
He tweeted: “Frustrated with these new restrictions in Ireland. We’ve done our part and we’ve followed the rules.
“And yet we move forwards only to move backwards again.
“All we ask is for clarity, and we have gotten none since the beginning.”
NOT RISKING IT
Explaining the reasons for the new set restrictions on Friday, the Taoiseach explained that the government and NPHET could not take a chance on allowing the Omicron variant to spread until they know more.
He said: “Further study and examination in the weeks ahead may discover that Omicron does not represent a more deadly threat.
“And if that is the case, it will come as a great relief to us all, but we simply cannot take that risk with people’s lives and health.
“Throughout this Covid journey there have been many twists and turns. This latest twist is disappointing, but we are nowhere near back where we were.”
