3 teens arrested after stolen vehicle chase in Cheektowaga
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Three teens were arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police on a chase through Cheektowaga Town Park, police said Tuesday.
The teens, two age 14 and one age 16, are accused of stealing the car. An officer recognized the car at a Valero gas station on Harlem Road around 7:30 p.m. Monday and tried to take the teens into custody, but the teens allegedly fled.
Police said the chase ended up going onto the grass at Cheektowaga Town Park and nearly hit several people with "numerous" baseball and softball games going on. The car allegedly exited the park onto Greenleaf Lane and hit an occupied vehicle before the teens were taken into custody.
Cheektowaga police said that it is unclear who was driving the car, but the driver will face the following charges:
- unlawfully fleeing a police officer
- first-degree reckless endangerment
- third-degree criminal mischief
- criminal possession of stolen property
- assault
All three were released. The person who was hit in the vehicle was taken to the hospital to be checked out and is stable.
