Hans-Joachim Stuck has had to wait almost 35 years for a reunion with the fully refurbished 962 C and its first rollout. So the surprise was all the greater when the silk cloth was drawn back to reveal the vehicle at the Weissach Development Centre. The Malta Tourism Authority welcomed the "great news" that the airport last month welcomed over 418,000 passengers, the first time since 1999 that the month of September was more popular among travellers compared to August. The airport last week said it had hosted 418,473 passengers in September, down by 45.1 per cent from September of 2019, before the pandemic struck. Eleven new COVID-19 cases were announced on Monday, with data showing that seven patients are receiving hospital treatment.  One of those seven patients is receiving intensive care treatment, according to the health ministry. No deaths were reported between Sunday and Monday, while a total of 22 COVID patients recovered overnight, meaning Malta's number of active virus cases now stands at 270. The government collected €245 million in taxes from the rental market over seven years, information tabled in parliament shows.  Flagging the figures on Monday, the Malta Developers Association said the system was introduced following the association's proposal to do so. Before that, the government collected very little from rents, it claimed. Back in 2014, the tax on rented properties was reduced from 35 per cent to 15 per cent. A woman who was sexually abused while under a care order when she was a minor has been awarded €70,000 in damages by a court, which said that no financial compensation could fix the damage caused by the state’s shortcomings.   Elena*, now 35, sued the state advocate and the Foundation for Social Welfare Services for failing to protect her when they should have. The Malta national team is set to cross swords with Cyprus in what will be one of Devis Mangia’s most important matches since taking over as coach in 2019 (Kick-off: 18.00). A 34-year-old Xagħra man suffered grievous injuries on Sunday in a traffic accident in Victoria. The police said the man was riding a Honda motorbike. The other person involved in the crash - a 27-year-old man also from Xagħra - was driving a Toyota Ractis. The crash took place at 8.45pm on Triq l-Ewropa, from where the motorcyclist was rushed to the Gozo General Hospital. Police investigations are ongoing.

PM’s visit Driving home from my morning swim at Ħondoq I was very surprised and pleased to see groups of workers cleaning and tidying Qala. Apparently, the prime minister was scheduled to visit and these extra workers had been drafted in to help the solitary street sweeper who normally does his best to keep Qala clean. Finance Minister Clyde Caruana is expected to announce a separate mechanism to compensate society’s most needy for the rising cost of living. Sources said the new mechanism will be separate and over-and-above the cost-of-living adjustment mechanism where those who feel the pinch of rising costs can be compensated separately. The United States and Britain warned their citizens on Monday to stay away from hotels in the Afghan capital Kabul, particularly the well-known Serena. "US citizens who are at or near the Serena Hotel should leave immediately," the US State Department said, citing "security threats" in the area. The Collegiate Church of St Paul Shipwrecked, one of the most beautiful churches in the island, was closely connected to the building of Valletta. The church has always been significantly connected to the Sovereign Order of Malta and  served for a long period of time as the bishop’s main church in the city.
