Italy is hoping to drop the quarantine requirement for visitors from the rest of the European Union, Britain and Israel by mid-May, Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said on Saturday. A Maltese man arrested in Libya had been flagged for suspected criminal activity by the local authorities several months ago.  Jesmond Vella, 45, known as Il-Bulgaru, was arrested in the western coastal city of Zuwarah on suspicion of human smuggling and drug trafficking on April 5. A 17-year old man was seriously injured on Saturday after falling from a height in Binġemma valley, in the limits of Mġarr. The young man, a Birkirkara resident, was assisted by the Civil Protection Department and medical personnel on site after the incident at around 11.30am.  He was then transferred to Mater Dei Hospital for further treatment.  Police investigations are ongoing.

The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in Malta continued to hit months-long lows on Saturday, when just six new virus cases were reported. No patients died overnight, meaning the death toll remained stable at 417. Two Italian nationals caught with undeclared cash as they were leaving Malta are likely to be charged in court, after Customs seized the money on the suspicion that it is related to criminal activity.
