A Prayer For When You Want God To Lead Your Desires
Finding peace starts with surrendering our worries to the universe and trusting that God’s guidance will meet us in the middle of our uncertainty. Best-selling author of Finding God Every Day, Rebecca Simon, reminds us to trust God’s timing, embrace patience, and lean on His presence through every season of life.
This prayer is for the person who’s tired of guessing, tired of forcing, and tired of wanting things that keep breaking them down. When you ask God to lead your desires, you’re not surrendering your heart — you’re protecting it. You’re choosing alignment over attachment. You’re giving God permission to reshape what you reach for so you no longer run after things that were never meant to hold you.
If this found you, take it as a gentle reminder: it’s okay to let God guide not just where you go, but what you long for on the way there.
God,
You know the hopes I hold, the longings I don’t always say out loud, and the expectations I carry even when I’m not sure where they come from. You see the places my heart is reaching, the things I hope for, and the dreams I’m trying to make sense of. So today, I’m asking you to guide not just my steps, but my desires themselves.
If I’m wanting something that isn’t meant for me, gently loosen my grip. If I’m chasing something that won’t lead me where you are taking me, redirect my heart. And if a desire truly comes from you, strengthen it, confirm it, and prepare me for it.
Shape what I long for, God. Align my wants with what will bring peace, not confusion. Help me release expectations that drain me and hold onto the ones that grow me. Teach me to trust that you aren’t just leading my life — you are leading my hope too.
I place what I want into your hands, God. Move me towards what is meant for me, and away from what is not.
Amen.
