5 Reasons People Are Demanding Princess Diana’s Case Be Reopened

Princess Diana died in a Paris car crash on August 31, 1997. Official investigations by both French and British authorities concluded it was an accident caused by a drunk driver and paparazzi pursuit. The final inquiry closed in 2008.

That should have been the end of it.

But in early 2026, nearly three decades later, the calls to reopen her case are louder than they have been in years. And this time, the people asking questions aren’t just conspiracy theorists. They include Diana’s own son.

1. Prince Andrew’s Arrest Has Shattered Public Trust in the Royal Family,

On February 19, 2026, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested at the Sandringham estate on suspicion of misconduct in a public office. The arrest came after years of allegations connecting Andrew to Jeffrey Epstein’s trafficking network and months of newly released Epstein files.

2. There Is a 6,000-Page Sealed French Police Dossier That No One Can Read Until 2082

The French investigation into Diana’s death produced a massive dossier containing toxicology reports, witness statements, crime scene photographs, and forensic evidence. That dossier was sealed and locked away. It cannot be legally accessed until the year 2082. With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death approaching on August 31, 2027, fringe groups and investigative journalists are reportedly planning efforts to access or leak the contents of that dossier. The official conclusion is that Henri Paul, the driver of the Mercedes, was drunk and speeding while being chased by paparazzi. The car struck a pillar inside the Pont de l’Alma tunnel. Diana, Dodi Fayed, and Henri Paul died. Bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones survived.

That is the official account. But there are details within it that people have questioned for nearly thirty years.

The Pont de l’Alma tunnel had no functioning CCTV cameras on the night of the crash. In one of the most surveilled cities in the world, there is no footage of what happened inside that tunnel.

Diana’s body was embalmed unusually quickly after the crash, before a full autopsy could be performed. Critics have argued this made it impossible to confirm or rule out whether she was pregnant at the time of her death, which would have had enormous political implications given her relationship with Dodi Fayed.

Henri Paul’s blood alcohol levels were reported at more than three times the legal limit. But colleagues who saw him that evening stated he appeared completely sober. Questions about whether the blood samples were contaminated or mishandled have never been fully resolved.

A white Fiat Uno was identified by witnesses and paint transfer evidence as having made contact with Diana’s Mercedes shortly before the crash. That vehicle was never traced. The driver was never found.

None of these details prove foul play. But taken together, they represent a collection of unanswered questions that official investigations chose not to pursue further. People notice when questions stop being asked.

5. A New Wave of Media Projects Are Happening

The conversation is not happening in a vacuum. Multiple media projects are converging around Diana’s story at the same time.
