Angels top A’s with 3-run homer in 9th
With the A’s leading 6-4 in the ninth, Ryan Dull got the call, but he gave up singles to the first two batters of the inning, then Danny Espinosa lofted a home run to right to give the Angels a 7-6 victory at the Coliseum.
[...] Espinosa’s blast, Rajai Davis was looking like the A’s hero of the night.
With Oakland down a run and two men on in the seventh, Davis smacked a triple off first baseman Jefry Marte’s glove.
The A’s helping of homers piled up, with Ryon Healy and Jed Lowrie belting their first home runs of the season, both solo shots off Matt Shoemaker.
Lowrie had a shot at the cycle, but Kole Calhoun robbed him of a possible triple with a diving catch of Lowrie’s drive to right in the eighth.
Manaea had one messy inning, handing out singles like canapes, but it was walks that precipitated Manaea’s trouble.
With one out in the second, he walked Marte on four pitches, and the Angels then got singles from Cameron Maybin, Andrelton Simmons and Martin Maldonado, who provided a two-run hit to right-center.
In the fifth, Manaea walked Calhoun with two outs, and Mike Trout slipped a triple down the third-base line to give the Angels a 4-2 lead.
