UCLA women roll against Arizona
Jordin Canada and Nicole Kornet scored 21 points apiece and No. 15 UCLA defeated host Arizona 79-56 on Friday night.
UCLA led 17-14 after the first quarter, and then the Bruins’ Kelli Hayes opened the second with a steal and a layup to spark a 14-4 run for a 31-18 lead.
Sophie Brunner scored 20 points and added eight rebounds as the host Sun Devils (18-10, 9-8 Pac-12) won their second in a row.
The Longhorns (21-7, 14-3) had a chance to tie it, but Bridget Carlton blocked Ariel Atkins’ driving shot with nine seconds left and then made two free throws.
Creighton guard Maurice Watson Jr. was returning to Omaha, Neb., from Philadelphia, his attorney told the Omaha World-Herald, after a 19-year-old woman alleged that Watson raped her Feb. 4.
Watson, a senior who suffered a season-ending knee injury last month, is suspended from all team activities.
According to the district attorney’s office, Jackson followed the woman after she threw a drink at Jackson’s friend in the bar.
