Youngsters are key for Cal on Seniors Night against Oregon State
Point guard Charlie Moore continued to climb the school’s all-time freshman statistical lists, and sophomore Ivan Rabb finished one rebound shy of his 16th double-double as Cal breezed past Oregon State 76-46 on Friday night.
The Bears (19-9, 10-6 Pac-12) snapped a season-high three-game losing streak and moved a game ahead of Utah for fourth place.
Moore added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists as he continued one of the program’s best freshman seasons.
Moore (363 points) passed Tremaine Fowlkes (361) for 10th on the school’s freshman list, tied Ayinde Ubaka for fifth with 108 assists and leaped Nick Vander Laan (85 free throws) for 10th with 88 foul shots.
Bird’s breakaway dunk with 10:04 on the clock gave the Bears a 15-14 lead, despite shooting just 26.3 percent from the floor.
Cal limited Oregon State to one field goal during a five-minute first-half stretch and used an 18-2 run to extend its lead to 33-19 with 3:02 to play.
Rabb scored half of the Bears’ points during the stretch while they were 0-of-7 from three-point range.
The freshman point guard made Cal’s first three-pointer to spark the run, piled up seven points and two assists during the spurt and capped the stretch with a jumper that put the Bears on top 55-35 with 13:04 remaining.
