Golden Gate Ferry to take over operation of Tiburon commuter run
The kerfuffle over the future of the Tiburon commuter ferry has ended peacefully, and Golden Gate Ferry will take over operation of the route in March, the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District announced.
Blue & Gold, which has run the ferry for 38 years, announced in 2015 that it couldn’t afford to keep it afloat and started negotiations with Golden Gate, which already runs boats from Sausalito and Larkspur.
After more than a year of talks, Golden Gate was poised to take over the Tiburon route in late January, but Angel Island-Tiburon operators complained about safety concerns from Golden Gate’s operations and threatened legal action, according to Golden Gate.
