Feagin helps Santa Clara trim Pacific
Sophomore guard KJ Feagin went 6-for-7 from beyond the arc and scored 22 points as Santa Clara held off Pacific 69-68 at the Leavey Center on Thursday night.
Another sophomore guard, Matt Hauser, had 13 points and a game-high 10 assists for the Broncos (16-14, 10-7).
Hauser hit two foul shots with nine seconds remaining to give Santa Clara a 69-66 edge.
Pacific (10-20, 4-13) had a chance to tie, but Jack Williams’ three-point attempt was off the mark.
Anthony Townes’ putback before the buzzer accounted for the game’s final two points.
Townes led the Tigers with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Kratch scored 18 points, but Brownridge went 2-for-11 from the floor (1-for-8 from long range) and had five points.
Loyola Marymount 53, USF 51:
In Malibu, the Dons (19-11, 9-8) led 32-22 early in the second half, but they fell to the Lions.
Steven Haney had a game-high 18 points for Loyola Marymount (14-14, 7-10).
Jordan Ratinho then drove the lane but could not connect on what would have been a tying shot.
Ratinho led the Dons with 13 points.
Women
St. Mary’s 84, Pepperdine 57:
At McKeon Pavilion, Megan McKay scored 11 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds as the Gaels (17-11, 12-5) hammered the Waves (7-21, 5-12).
Stella Beck had 17 points; she led six St. Mary’s players who scored in double figures.
Allie Green scored 17 points to lead Pepperdine.
USF 89, Loyola Marymount 73:
On the Hilltop, Rachel Howard hit all 14 of her free-throw tries en route to a game-high 29 points as the Dons (16-12, 10-7) dusted the Lions (13-15, 8-9).
USF also got 23 points from Anna Seilund and 19 from Michaela Rakova.
Leslie Lopez-Wood scored 19 points to pace LMU.
Santa Clara 61, Pacific 51:
Morgan McGwire went 9-for-11 from the floor while scoring 18 points and also grabbed a game-high 14 boards as the Broncos (14-14, 9-8) prevailed over the Tigers (9-19, 5-12) in Stockton.
GeAnna Luaulu-Summers scored 12 points to lead Pacific.
