'Lynn Hershman Leeson: Civic Radar' opens at the YBCA
Upon stepping inside the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts latest exhibition, Lynn Hershman Leeson: Civic Radar, you are greeted by your own reflection.
When your eyes adjust to the dim light, you become transported into a sterile laboratory by two video projections. Welcome to The Infinity Engine (2014-2017), one of Leeson's most recent works.
As you walk into the next room, you are greeted by an unconventional wallpaper, plastered with snapshots of genetically modified creatures. The centerpiece of the room is a glowing tank, neon fish darting to and fro.
Within moments, the exhibition introduces many of the themes that Bay Area resident Leeson has grappled with during her career, a career that long remained under-the-radar.
