Apple diversity report shows modest improvements

Tech companies have been criticized for having too many engineers who are white or Asian males.

A lack of diverse perspectives, critics fear, could limit the types of products that companies create.

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky recently cited his company’s lack of diversity as a reason it has struggled to deal with incidents of racial discrimination by hosts.

Jesse Jackson, president of the Rainbow Push Coalition, said Apple is making “major progress on all levels” from hiring diverse employees to naming more people of color to leadership positions.

Blacks represented 1 percent and Hispanics 3 percent of Google’s and Facebook’s U.S. tech workforce.
