A Nigerian Air Force plane has landed in Burkina Faso due to what it calls an in-flight emergency. The Nigerian Air Force has confirmed the emergency landing in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso late Monday. Nigeria says it followed standard safety procedures and the crew and passengers are safe. Judges at the International Criminal Court have sentenced a leader of the feared Sudanese Janjaweed militia to 20 years imprisonment for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the catastrophic conflict in Darfur more than 20 years ago. Prosecutors had sought a life sentence for Ali Muhammad Ali Abd–Al-Rahman. He was convicted in October of 27 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity that included ordering mass executions and bludgeoning two prisoners to death with an ax in 2003-2004. Indonesian police say a fire ripped through an office building in the capital, Jakarta, killing at least 17 people. Flames engulfed the seven-story building on Tuesday, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky and causing panic among nearby residents and workers in a neighborhood in Central Jakarta.

Lithuania's government has declared a national emergency over security risks from balloons entering its airspace from Belarus. These balloons have repeatedly forced the closure of Vilnius Airport. The government describes this as a form of hybrid warfare. In a statement, officials cited national security interests and the danger to human life, property, and the environment. The balloons have carried contraband from Belarus, a former Soviet neighbor and ally of Russia.
