DANVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Police say a man stole an ambulance with its crew still aboard. The Daily Item reports it happened Monday morning when the suspect jumped into an ambulance parked at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Police say the crew was able to escape out the back of the ambulance. The suspect drove away but crashed into a pole a few blocks away, in front of a pharmacy. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly apologized Monday for calling three fellow Republican lawmakers "terrorists" over how they negotiated the state budget with Gov. Scott Walker. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos issued a written apology, a day after he called the state senators terrorists during a television interview. BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont police department says its investigation is continuing after a Brattleboro business owner fired multiple shots at people who were burglarizing his business. Police say that on Friday evening the business owner, whose name was not released, called to report a burglary in progress and that he had fired multiple shots from a handgun at the burglars. JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — The Alaska Legislature has convened its fourth special session this year. Gov. Bill Walker has asked lawmakers to consider a wage tax and to respond to public outcry over crime by revising a sweeping criminal justice overhaul passed last year. Walker sees new revenue as a key component of a plan to address a multibillion-dollar state deficit that has persisted amid low oil prices. The review by Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera's office was released Monday. It says the education department relies on its own annual school performance scores, rather than reviewing standardized test score results as required by state law. (AP) — Seven Massachusetts police officers who got stranded in Georgia after a short hurricane relief mission to Puerto Rico have made it home thanks to a fellow officer who's also a commercial pilot. The officers are from Hampden, Holyoke, Easthampton and Chelsea and departed Oct. 7. NEW YORK (AP) — A new study suggests that crying babies push the same "buttons" in their mothers' brains no matter what their culture. The research found that mothers in a variety of countries tend to react the same way to their bawling child — by picking up and talking to the baby. And brain scans suggested that response may be programmed into their brain circuits. The results were published Monday by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. DALLAS (AP) — Police on Monday were waiting for confirmation that a body found over the weekend was that of a 3-year-old girl who disappeared from her suburban Dallas home earlier this month. Sgt. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A murder trial started Monday for a Mexican man who set off a national immigration debate after he shot and killed a woman two years ago on a popular San Francisco pier. Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, 54, has acknowledged shooting Kate Steinle in the back while she was walking with her father on the downtown pier on July 1, 2015.
