Las Vegas authorities have identified Stephen Craig Paddock as the shooter behind last night’s deadly attack on the Harvest 91 festival concert, which left more than 50 dead and upwards of 400 injured. While details about Paddock’s past and possible motivation are still emerging, we already know quite a bit about the man behind what is now deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court won't hear a challenge to Minnesota's sex offender civil commitment system, which allows people deemed sexually dangerous to be committed to a treatment facility for an indefinite period of time. The court's order, which declines to hear the case, came Monday. MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's Education Department says authorities have revoked the permits of an elementary and middle school that collapsed in the recent magnitude 7.1 earthquake, killing 26 people. The department says in a statement that the Enrique Rebsamen school in Mexico City will be prohibited from operating. The privately run school has been closed since the Sept. 19 quake. CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's Interior Ministry says police have killed three suspected militants in a shootout in a southern Cairo suburb. The ministry said in a statement on Monday that the militants were members of Hasm, a breakaway faction of the Muslim Brotherhood group that has targeted the police and army over the past years in a series of brazen attacks. BANGOR, Maine (AP) — A Maine environmentalist who played a key role in creating a much-debated national monument says he's running for Congress. Lucas St. Clair's the sixth Democrat to enter the race against Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin, who represents Maine's vast and mostly rural 2nd District. The 39-year-old St. Clair brokered creation of Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument by then-President Barack Obama last year. JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — The University of Jamestown has named a new president, and its first female leader. School Executive Vice President Polly Peterson will succeed current President Robert Badal when he retires next February. Peterson currently oversees the university's offices of Institutional Advancement and Business Affairs. MILWAUKEE (AP) — Police say a mother and her baby died when their vehicle was struck by a driver who failed to stop for a red light in Milwaukee. The crash happened about 1 a.m. Monday. Authorities say the 27-year-old woman and her 11-month-old daughter died at the scene of the crash at a north side intersection. Police say a 22-year-old man who ran the red light was taken to the hospital and later arrested.

BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — Police say officers were involved in the fatal shooting of a man after a traffic stop in Burlington. The shooting occurred around 1:50 p.m. Sunday. The Hawk Eye reports that witnesses said two officers tackled the man when he tried to flee on foot after his vehicle was stopped. Lt. (AP) — Authorities say charges are expected following a beating of a 14-year-old student after a northwestern Indiana high school football game that was recorded on cellphone video. PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island State Police detective was among those in the crowd when a gunman opened fire at a country music concert in Las Vegas, killing more than 50 people.
