Trump calls midterm elections ‘Big Victory’ despite GOP losing control of House
President Trump began the morning after the 2018 midterm elections with a series of tweets celebrating a “Big Victory” for Republicans and boasting on Twitter about congratulations from friends at home and abroad.
But while Trump gained allies in the Senate — Republicans picked up at least two seats — he also saw his party lose control of the House. Democrats needed to flip a net of 23 seats nationwide, and they got there just about the time the polls closed Tuesday in California. Even without California’s results, Democrats had already won in 25 GOP-held districts and led in a number of others.
