Lawmaker proposing to change wind energy tax distribution
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A state legislator wants to change how wind energy tax revenue is distributed in North Dakota.
Rep. Mike Brandenburg says a portion of the money should be directed to the state rather than sending it all to local counties. Branenburg floated his idea this week at the Legislature's Energy Development and Transmission Committee.
The Bismarck Tribune reports the Republican lawmaker is a strong advocate for wind energy. Brandenburg says he wants to address criticism that the wind industry doesn't contribute to the state budget as coal and oil do.
