A’s add Fernando Rodney to already packed bullpen
If the A’s are going to win this season, they’ll do it with a monster bullpen — they are going all in on relievers.
The team picked up a big name Thursday evening, acquiring closer Fernando Rodney, 41, in a waiver-claim deal with Minnesota for minor-league starter Dakota Chalmers. In the past month, Oakland had added Jeurys Familia, another closer, in a deal with the Mets and Shawn Kelly in a deal with Washington, and the bullpen was a strong one, with All-Star closer Blake Trenein, standout rookie Lou Trivino and multipurpose right-hander Yusmeiro Petit.
