Katie Ledecky cruises to second win at Santa Clara pro swim meet
In her second pro meet since relinquishing her spot on the Stanford swim team, Katie Ledecky continued to dominate at the TYR Pro Swim Series meet in Santa Clara.
After winning the 200-meter freestyle with the world’s fastest time of the year on Friday night, the five-time Olympic gold medalist returned Saturday and won the first event contested, the 800 free, in 8:11.08. The 21-year-old Washington, D.C., native holds the world record in the event (8:04.79, set in 2016).
Stanford’s Megan Byrnes took third in that race, two spots ahead of Cardinal teammate Leah Stevens.
Former Stanford swimmers Simone Manuel and Lia Neal went 1-2 in the women’s 100 free.
