Woman dies after driving wrong way on I-680, crashing into center divide
A 32-year-old woman died early Monday after driving the wrong direction on Interstate 680 and crashing into the center divider in Walnut Creek, authorities said.
Officers responded just after 1:30 a.m. to the area of Livorna Road after receiving reports of a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant traveling northbound on the southbound lanes of the interstate, according to the California Highway Patrol. By the time officers found the driver, she had already crashed into the concrete divider, CHP said.
The woman, an Oakland resident, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity was not released.
It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, CHP said.
