New affordable housing development with 60 units opens
LOCKPORT, N.Y. (AP) — A 60-unit, three-story affordable housing development has opened in a western New York town.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that the $17.7 million Packet Boat Landing Apartments in Lockport in Niagara County had its grand opening.
The Democrat says the complex contains 60 new one-bedroom units, including 21 with supportive services. It's named after the packet boats that used to ply the Erie Canal, which cuts through Lockport.
The project is the latest in the state's ongoing five-year, $20 billion plan to alleviate New York's homelessness problem while making more affordable housing units available. The plan includes multifamily and single-family housing, community development and rent stabilization.
