Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Hawkins says his doctors are telling him that his pancreatic cancer was caught early and is "very beatable."
Hawkins' campaign announced Thursday that Hawkins was diagnosed in February and is undergoing treatment.
He plans to stay in the race.
Hawkins says he asked his doctors, if they were in his position, if they would drop out. He says they told him no.
Hawkins is one of the higher-profile Republicans seeking the GOP nomination for governor in the August primary.
Gov. Bill Walker, an independent, is seeking re-election.____12:55 p.m.
