Jurors hear recording of ex-football player before arrest
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Jurors in the murder trial of former Division III college football player William Riley Gaul heard a recording in which he gets arrested while preparing to throw a gun in the Tennessee River after his ex-girlfriend's death.
The video that played Thursday shows Gaul talking to friends about plans to dispose of the gun. In portions of the recording that could be heard but not seen, Gaul gets arrested with a gun in his car.
Prosecutors say Gaul stole his grandfather's gun and killed 16-year-old Emma Jane Walker on Nov. 21, 2016, by shooting into her bedroom from outside her house. Gaul was a freshman receiver for Tennessee's Maryville College at the time.
